What DNA sequencing service facility should I use?

This is a question we often get asked (it is one of the reasons we started doing the reviews). It is basically an impossible question to answer as it depends on you needs and location. The best way to approach the question is deciding what are your essential requirements, eliminating all the facilities that don't fit, then selecting on price, and then on distance from you.

If you would like advice post what your essential requirements are in this forum and we will try to provide you with a list of five facilities that meet these requirements.

What is the cheapest place to get sequencing done in the USA?

This really depends on what services you want and how many samples that you want to process at a time. Some sequencing facilities are very cheap if you send in a minimum of 96 samples in a tray, while others are much better for only a few samples.

The other major area that can make quite a difference in price is if you want to do your own reactions or not. can you provide more information of what you want?

Thanks for your help Daniel. I want to do my own reactions and I have around 300 samples that I want to sequence. Is that enough information?

There are quite a few that are quite low cost facilities if you want to send ready-to-run samples. Probably the cheapest is UCLA Core Facility at $150 for a 96 well tray which is only a $1.56 a trace. Hello,
I have 20 PCR products (about 600 pb) to be purified and sequenced. I live in Chile, southamerica, and I want to know What is the cheapest and rapid place to get sequencing?

I don't know of any sequencing facilities in South America, so I would suggest using any of the facilities in the USA that are shown in red on the main sequencing facility review pages. These are customers of ours that are using LongTrace or PeakTrace and that I know generate good quality data - speed is not much help if what you get back is not good quality :)

I am based in NZ and am looking for quality, not turn-around time. I have 10-20 samples (F + R) reactions my product is approx 150bp - who do you recommend? They do not need to be NZ based but asia-pacific.

I am located in California, and want to find a good sequencing facility for PCR products, ranging in size from 400 - 1200 bases. I usually have from 10 - 30 products to sequence at a time. Quality, cost, and speed are all important, quality more so than cost, which is more impt than speed. I have gotten inconsistent results with the place I have been using, so have been wondering whether there is somewhere better.
